For as long as I can remember, I have been involved in education. From coaching ultimate frisbee, teaching math as a lead teacher, or running after-school art programs, I have always found ways to engage with students. Whether that involves presenting different strategies to understand multiplication, thinking of drills to increase spatial understanding on the field, or showcasing how color can change a feeling of a painting, I always seek to better understand obstacles that confront our learners and how I can adapt my teaching to help them better understand.
Collaborating with my wife, Samantha, as her assistant is one of the biggest treats of life! We have different experiences with teaching, but we share the understanding of how to scaffold a concept to a struggling students without giving too much, planning an activity to be age appropriate, and supporting learners in peer interactions that will help the grow to be respectful adults. Even when we didn't work together, there have been many times I shared how my students struggled academically, socially, or with organization skills. We'd bounce ideas on how to support the learner and we almost always took a lesson on how our teaching can help not only my middle school students, but Samantha's little learners as well.
After working in middle school classrooms for over a decade, I am excited to support the learners at Sowing Joy Schoolhouse. It a gift to be a part of the shaping of a young mind and even better I get to do that with with one of the best early ed teachers around.
