Sowing Joy Schoolhouse is a fully licensed and insured personalized learning program in Easthampton, MA. Our goal is to create a safe, structured, loving, and joyful environment to foster the love of learning and life. Our hope at SJS is that a small, cozy, homelike environment will help take the pressures off learning and help teach children to integrate learning into their everyday lives. We encourage mixed age groups because we feel like we all learn best when we learn with and from our community.
As a home based program we are blessed to have our schoolhouse feel integrated with our gardens and Mount Tom. Being able to be surrounded by nature, during even our center play or community style lunch time was important when planning out our design. At SJS we feel less is more and in slowing down; one way we accomplish this is to continuously think about how to utilize our gardens, outdoor reading circle and play areas to promote curiosity and joy. The blending of indoor and outdoor spaces makes SJS ideal for your little, as they establish their own roots in life.
At SJS we believe less is more, in slowing down, and in embracing nature to see the lessons she can teach us.

SJS's Mission:
Sowing Joy Schoolhouse is a personalized learning program where learning is tailored to the needs and interests of each student. This program integrates play with developmentally and age appropriate exposure to academics to help students acquire important life and academic skills like problem solving skills, critical thinking skills, time management, advocacy, awareness of self, and awareness of others. We believe that fostering these skills at a young age will help learners be successful in whatever setting comes next for them.
SJS's Philosophy Statement:
As an early childhood teacher in the public, private, and charter setting for over 10 years, I became discouraged because I felt like much of my time was spent in windowless rooms pushing children to learn more and to learn it faster. I believe that childhood shouldn't be rushed and that we miss out on the beauty of existence when we spend all day indoors. Children are only children for so long and they should live in those moments as much as they can. This is why I opened up Sowing Joy Schoolhouse, in hopes that we could bring time, joy, and a little dirt back into childhood. The program that I have is small, adaptable, and prepares children for whatever comes next for them.
